Star SB-20R Type G CNC Sliding Head Lathe

The Star SB-20R Type G is a high-performance 20 mm CNC Swiss-type automatic lathe, designed for accurate, productive manufacture of complex turned components. Offering twin-spindle machining, driven tooling, C-axis control and flexible guide-bush configuration, the SB-20R is particularly well suited to subcontract machining and high-volume precision component production.

Tooling Capability

The SB-20R Type G provides a highly flexible tooling platform capable of combining turning, drilling, milling and rear-working operations within a single machining cycle.

Depending on the selected tooling configuration, the machine can accommodate:

Star offered several cross-drilling/tool-post configurations, allowing the machine layout to be tailored around the component and machining requirements.

Guide Bush / Non-Guide Bush Capability

An important feature of the SB series is the ability to operate in either guide-bush or non-guide-bush configuration.

This provides additional flexibility when machining different component geometries and allows the machine configuration to be selected according to the overall component length.

For shorter components, non-guide-bush operation can also offer advantages in material utilisation by reducing the remnant length normally associated with conventional sliding-head production.

Twin-Spindle Production

The machine incorporates a dedicated sub spindle and rear-working station, allowing components to be transferred from the main spindle for secondary operations.

The backworking unit provides:
